I did it with both Photoshop CS3 and Freehand MX (so, both a bitmap and a vectorial app), and in both cases I just got the small bitmap icon (30 x 30 pixel). I'm afraid that's a limit of OSX 10.4. It's likely all of you have newer OSX versions.
