I use Google Reader to Synch NetNewsWire MP & PB and avoid the changes Google made to Reader, I don't even know what changed since I'm not using it on a browser. I would suggest that route for you but I think you'll need 10.5 Leopard to run a version of NetNewsWire that supports Reader.
Other RSS apps have talked about adding Reader synch but I don't know if any of them ever actually did. But it might be worth browsing macupdate.com to see the offerings.
