Good that they're fading!
I've seen some older displays pick up pressure artifacts after
cleaning. Usually they fade out after a while tho. I've also seen
some displays pick up color from a wet cleaning cloth. Odd, but that
too should be cleanable.
Most computer stores sell screen cleaning stuff - a cleaning solution
and a lint-free cloth. Use one of those, very gently.
