I recently received an ipod touch, gen 2. I never messed around with
one before and was surprised to discover it requires itunes 10 to do
anything with my macs---the most advanced being my s/o's macbook pro
that runs tiger. I'd prefer to charge and load it on my G4. So I am
wondering what my options are here or a workaround. I'd at least want
to add some of my music to its 8 gigs. Could i upload music like to a
dropbox and ahve the ipod see and download it? Is there some downgrade
of iOS? Does it absolutely require usb2 to charge?

According to the Wikipedia article <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITunes_version_history > the iPod Touch 2G only requires OS 10.4.11 which uses iTunes 9.2.1. OS 10.5.8 supports the latest iTunes 10.5.3 so you might consider upgrading both your G4 & MacBook Pro? If the G4 CPU isn't supported for Leopard, there are many methods to get around this, the most common being the use of LeopardAssist<http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/26562/leopardassist >.

I think if you have iTunes 9.2.1 on the 10.4.11 G4 you should be ok. If not, you may need to downgrade the iOS version to 4.2.1 on the iPod Touch IF you're above this version?

It's also strange to note that Apple supports iTunes 10 on old Windows XP computers, but can't support iTunes 10 on their own hardware of the same age.
