I'm in need of an optical drive data cable. Are they easy to pick up on the cheap? Do they use a standard data cable from any computer parts place? Cheers, Evan I wouldn't guarantee it, but I would think that a generic cable would definitely have the correct connectivity at the drive end - IDE is IDE is IDE - although you'd have to check angles etc., but I don't know about the other end - or how critical length is. I do know that optical drive cables for iMacs varied with different motherboard connections, not certain about the G5 Tower. I do believe that in the close confines of a G5 case, too long a cable might be a real pain in the butt. Certainly here in the UK, there are several genuine Apple cables on ebay from GB£3 to GB£10 (US$5 - US$15).
