This what I do to import to imovie. It may help somebody. Insert the DVD into the computer Open - applications - utilities - disk utilities highlight DVD -click on new image on upper bar choose location to save - click create it takes a few minutes to see DVD on desktop with the file ext. of .dmg Go to imovies and double click the .dmg file to mount it. imovies import window will appear asking you to choose - click import all.
