G4u would not complete the boot sequence on my Dell OptiPlex GX620, late December 2005. This machine has no PS2 ports and a fairly recent SATA controller.

 

The solution was to go into the BIOS and set the SATA Operation to “Combination”. The boot process then completed but the keyboard did not seem to work. I had to plug the keyboard into the USB slot closest to the LAN port and it was immediately detected and worked.

PS: Don’t forget to change the SATA Operation back to “Normal” when done so that you get best performance out of your drive.
