The problem would appear to be with the usb controller.  There are three
settings in the BIOS for the controller Off/On/No Boot.  G4U will boot fine if I
turn the controller off but the machine has no ps/2 sockets and obviously I then
have no access to a keyboard.  Setting it to No Boot makes no difference to the
problem.

I've seen many such questions recently, all with recent Dell hardware.
Unfortunately I haven't found a good fix so far.
Besides tweaking the BIOS, I've seen using a different USB port for the keyboard helping. Maybe let me know if that's of any help.
