[clone to larger 40 GB WD400JB drive]

On various occasions, I've used g4u to clone a smaller disk to a larger
one, for my home server, it has been the third time that the primary
hard disk is replaced with a larger one :)

g4u can only create perfect clones. You will need an additional tool to
resize the partitions after cloning is complete. I recommend using
gparted (http://gparted.sourceforge.net) for this. With the one of the
latest versions, gparted can do basically everything that tools like
Partition Magic can do, too - with an important difference: gparted just
works. :D

Download the gparted live CD (links can be found on the aforementioned
web site) which will give you a graphical user interface similar to that
of diskmgmt.msc - move the last partition to its new place, then grow
it, move the middle partition and grow it, and eventually grow the first
partition. Note: gparted will set the "dirty" flag on all partitions it
touches so that Windows will run chkdsk on each of them when it boots
afterwards. This is normal, desired behaviour and no fault.

As usual, there are no guarantees that gparted will do anything but wipe
your hard disk and creating a backup (ah, g4u comes in very handy!)
prior to the partition manipulations is just mandatory :)

If there are any more questions, feel free to ask, and please report
back when you're done :)

Best regards,
Andre
