Yes. Just make sure to gunzip it first:
cat foo.img | gunzip | dd of=/dev/hda bs=1m
I agree, done it both ways. G4U > dd and dd > G4U. Also, I have compiled
a modified version of G4U that will autoslurp after PXE boot if you're
interested. It takes the image commands via the dhcpd.conf file so you'd
need access to that.
