Summary: Your contact is using windows live...

Initial Comment:
Every time gaim starts, i get the following message:

"Yahoo! system message for <my name>:

Your contact is using windows live (MSN) messenger, and
wants to add you to his or her address list. to start
sharing instant messages, you'll first need to get the
latest Yahoo! messenger with voice at
http://messenger.yahoo.com/download.php";

I have no intention of installin yahoo messenger, as
the only feature i want to use is email notification
for my yahoo mail..

I have no contacts in my contact list, and my privacy
setting for Y!M is "Block all"

How do i permanently remove this annoying message?

Has duplicate 1646795; thus still present.
Also has duplicate 1638339, which has some patch info in the comments.

If you cannot fix this in a proper way, you could at least filter this
messages out ;-)

Hello,

I'm having this issue too... and it's really annoying.
Did anyone tried other alternate clients to see if this is happening to
them too? I think that maybe somehow we could get some hints from the other
OSS IM projects...I've tried in gyachi and enabling spam protection filters
it. in gaim it doesn't work

Hi there,
I'm also seeing this. I only started noticing it about a
week ago.

I've just downloaded and installed the new
gaim-2.0.0beta5-no-gtk.exe and the problem is still present
with this release.

It happens every single time I enable my Yahoo! account. A
dialog pops up with this info. Also, when I left my Gaim
running over the weekend, I had about 20 of such dialogs
open monday morning.

I'm pretty sure I don't have that many friends trying to add
me. :D Spammers, maybe!

Tried: Windows XP / Gaim 2.0.0 beta5 and 2.0.0 beta 3.1

I'm experiencing the same problem. Yahoo themselves have NO
solution ;< I don't even know who the spammer is that's
trying to add me and there is no way to block or ignore this
constant annoyance in gaim 1.5.0. I am not able to even
compile the beta version of GAIM so I hope any fix for this
will be backported to the stable version of gaim <sigh>

Thanks 4 the quick reply ^_^

Guess i'll just have to hunt down whoever is trying to add me...

Shame that the message gives me no hint whatsoever as to who
is adding me :S

Anyways, 'tis but a minor annoyance...

And; thanks you to the entire gaim team for bringing us, the
community, a great piece of software - Looking forward to
the next version! ^_^

It seems like the yahoo servers are annoyingly doing this
whenever someone using the newest version of MSN messenger
(which can talk to people on Yahoo) tries to add you.

Right now, there isn't much you can do - I believe that this
shouldn't be a problem with the next gaim release. (Marv -
is this correct?)
