Category: win32 Group: 2.0.0 beta 6 Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Dana (stonge85) Assigned to: Christopher (siege) O'Brien (taliesein) Summary: GAIM Crashes on Launch Initial Comment: GAIM crashes on launch. Have unistalled beta6, GTK and reinstalles; same error. Tried Beta 5 as well with same results. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: bon ami (bonami) Date: 2007-03-09 09:32 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1199968 Originator: NO beta 5 and 6 crashed on my XP sp2. i'm using msn, yahoo and qq protocols. strange that today i tried a few steps and it doesn't crash now. 1. rename all protocol dll's to disable them. run gaim then close. 2. enable all protocols except the ones i use. run gaim then close. 3. enable all protocols (adding qq, msn and yahoo step by step). run gaim and it does not crash. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Aaron (nd4spd4) Date: 2007-02-06 01:53 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=977213 Originator: NO I too have this crash problem on XP SP2. However I do not have a Sametime account. I've run gaim -n to disable auto login but that does not fix it. The windows crash report says: AppName gaim.exe AppVer: 2.0.0.0 ModVer: 2.0.0.0 ModName: libgaim.dll Offse: 00001379 This is gaim2 beta6. Gaim 2 beta 5 works fine. I've been using the Gaim Windows Position Manager (for MS Windows) plugin with beta5. Everything works until putting that plugin in the plugin directory. Did not even get the opportunity to attempt to enable the plugin. It causes gaim to crash on startup. I believe the author is aware of this issue and has created an updated version. So if you're using this plugin, this may be part of the problem since the Gaim install exe does not remove 3rd party plugins when it installs. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: John VanAntwerp (jvanantwerp) Date: 2007-02-02 13:07 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=957887 Originator: NO I have this same problem, only it is with Yahoo. I don't have mystatusbox.dll. I can use AIM fine, but as soon as I log into Yahoo, Gaim crashes. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Dana (stonge85) Date: 2007-01-30 01:35 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1704640 Originator: YES The plot thickens. I started gaim as directed. gaim.exe -n and disabled the account. I exited the application and started normally. I then logged into my sametime account and everything worked as normal. Something broke somewhere. This is still a bug that should be resolved. Even if an account is having trouble logining in, the whole application should not fail ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Pat Murphy (moiph) Date: 2007-01-30 01:31 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1251142 Originator: NO I should have figured this out sooner but I was a bit distracted with other things -- turns out my issue is related to "mystatusbox.dll", one of the plugins I had been using from the previous beta. Removing this dll resolves the issue. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Daniel Atallah (datallah) Date: 2007-01-30 01:30 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=325843 Originator: NO moiph: if you're not using sametime, your issue is probably going to be something different. Please open a new bug report containing a crash report according to the instructions at http://gaim.sf.net/win32/#debug ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Pat Murphy (moiph) Date: 2007-01-30 01:27 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1251142 Originator: NO My current autologins are AIM/ICQ, MSN, and Yahoo, so if it is indeed related to autologins it's probably MSN or Yahoo. I'll try reinstalling beta6 and see if I can pinpoint which account is causing the issue (if that is indeed what's causing the crash). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Daniel Atallah (datallah) Date: 2007-01-30 01:25 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=325843 Originator: NO This crash appears to be related to your Sametime account. You should be able run `gaim -n` to disable autologin, then disable your sametime account and have the rest of your accounts log in successfully. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Pat Murphy (moiph) Date: 2007-01-30 01:14 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1251142 Originator: NO I'm having the same issue on Vista x64. I let it upgrade GTK. Beta 5 works just fine, however (even on the newer GTK version). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Dana (stonge85) Date: 2007-01-30 00:29 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1704640 Originator: YES Forgot to mention, this is an XP /SP2 machine. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=100235&aid=1647235&group_id=235 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys.
