Summary: Gaim Crashing on Startup

Initial Comment:
I presume this is an instance of DLL hell, but the FAQ didn't explain how to
deal with the situation. GAIM had worked fine for months and months, until I
installed the latest Google Sketch-Up. Then, it crashed during a file-transfer
(MSN protocol), and whenever I open the program, I immediately receive the
"Gaim has encountered a problem and needs to close." message.

Looking at details, I see:
AppName: gaim.exe
AppVer: 2.0.0.0
ModName: ntdll.dll
MoVer: 5.1.2600.2180
Offset: 0002ae22

I also expect there's more data that would help, but without knowing quite how
to get it, I can't. Does anyone know what's going on, and more importantly, how
to fix it?

It's really hard to say what could have been going wrong without a crash
report.
You can reopen this if the problem reoccurs.

Umm. Not knowing how to actually edit/delete this, I'll just add a
comment. For some reason, it now works. It would not after multiple
reboots. When I pulled the computer out of hibernation, it suddenly did
(Which I only noticed because my backup of Trillian decided to not be able
to keep any connections for more than a split-second).

In any case, for myself this isn't a problem at the moment, though if
someone actually has an idea what went wrong and how to fix it from the
user-side, I'd be interested.
