Category: None Group: None >Status: Closed Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Alex Malinovich (demonbane) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Crash recovery Initial Comment: I've recently been having LOTS of stability issues with Gaim CVS which I believe are due to my system configuration and not the gaim code. However, they have exposed a need for improved crash handling. Either of the following is, IMO, a good solution assuming that it could be easily implemented: 1) Bona-fide crash recovery, ala Galeon. If gaim crashes while a message is displayed, at next startup the message or at the very least an IM window to the sender, should be opened. 2) Earlier logging of messages. A message should be written to the log (if logging is enabled) the moment it is received. This way, if receipt of a message causes a crash, the message SHOULD (theoretically) still be written to the log so that when a user comes back to find gaim crashed, s/he can have some way of determining who last messaged them and about what. I have yet to actually peruse the code, but I'd imagine that 2 would be easy to implement with little more than a cut-and-paste of the logging function to an earlier point in the messaging process. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Luke Schierer (lschiere) Date: 2007-04-11 13:03 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=28833 Originator: NO As we are closing this tracker, please submit any feature request that is still valid to http://developer.pidgin.im. I started looking through the code and i had the question, how to handle conversations restore if logging is not enabled? Also, I think I would need help making this as a plugin because it's my first one ever. email me if you want. note: i won't get started on this yet. i may work on all logs for a day in the same file first. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Megan Schneider (ciran) Date: 2006-08-17 10:48 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=801517 Duplicates: 997810, 1037085 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: The Beast With Eyes (beastwitheyes) Date: 2003-06-02 20:11 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=781114 This sounds like a good idea. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Luke Schierer (lschiere) Date: 2002-12-23 11:00 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=28833 some of what you are hitting is that in cvs, some messages will cause gaim to crash. this is being worked on. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=350235&aid=651108&group_id=235 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys.
