Category: gtk-ui Group: None >Status: Closed Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: frnkblk (frnkblk) Assigned to: Richard Laager (rlaager) Summary: Google Talk and icons Initial Comment: Google Talk works fine with v1.50 of GAIM, but I would it would be nice if it had it's own account icons. Is there a way that we can assign custom icons to each account we create? A library could be started, one for Google Talk, one of each school, etc. That way if someone has three Jabber accounts, they can distinguish between each of them. Thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Luke Schierer (lschiere) Date: 2005-09-01 23:38 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=28833 agreed, trying to differentiate jabber servers seems rather silly. the only question is if the talk part of google talk will remain google only, and that only really becomes a question when we look at backporting gaim-vv ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Nathan Walp (faceprint) Date: 2005-09-01 23:06 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=17471 coder3: buddy icons are an entirely different issue. gaim 2.0.0 will have buddy icon support, and i may or may not backport the feature to the 1.x series if I have time ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Richard Laager (rlaager) Date: 2005-09-01 22:14 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=156487 Yeah, I was envisioning the user could set an icon for each account. I didn't give much thought to the core vs. hooks for a plugin, but it doesn't matter much to me either way. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: history (coder3) Date: 2005-09-01 21:36 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1129810 This problem also exists with other Jabber enabled clients (such as iChat) using other Jabber servers (such as Jabber.org). My account at jabber.org does not show other peoples icons but when I "Get Info" on a user I then see the icon in their summary. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: frnkblk (frnkblk) Date: 2005-09-01 21:02 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1167531 My apologies if my suggestion led you to think that I was recommending that the GAIM project should host icons. In fact, my suggestion is closer to Nathan's point, that for each type of IM account a person could load their own protocol icons, much like how people add their own budyy icon/avatar to GAIM, now. I'm presuming that someone else would host a library of icons, or that they could be auto-reformated to fit the standard size of a protocl icon. Frank ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Nathan Walp (faceprint) Date: 2005-09-01 20:34 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=17471 I don't think this belongs in gaim core. However, I wouldn't have a problem with putting in the appropriate hooks for a plugin to do this sort of thing. We really don't want to have to maintain an up-to-date library of icons for each jabber server. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Richard Laager (rlaager) Date: 2005-08-27 20:20 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=156487 I thought of this as well, and I think it has some merit. I'll take ownership of this. Feel free to take it away from me if you're going to implement it soon. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=350235&aid=1274028&group_id=235 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by DB2 Express Download DB2 Express C - the FREE version of DB2 express and take control of your XML.
