Please note that this message will contain a full copy of the comment thread, including the initial issue submission, for this request, not just the latest update. Category: None Group: None >Status: Closed Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: JF St-Amour (jfs862) Assigned to: Etan Reisner (deryni9) Summary: Window title sanity Initial Comment: Window titles are no longer "generic". For example, the away message window isn't named "Away" anymore, it bears the name of the away message. Same thing for the conversation window which isn't named "Conversations" anymore. etc etc etc Why is this annoying? If you use a window manager that uses the window title to remember application properties, this obviously doesn't work anymore (e.g enlightenment). I like the older behaviour much better, and it makes a lot more sense to me anyway. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Luke Schierer (lschiere) Date: 2007-04-17 15:42 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=28833 Originator: NO As we are closing this tracker, please submit any feature request that is still valid to http://developer.pidgin.im. Thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Etan Reisner (deryni9) Date: 2005-11-23 13:59 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=516184 I fully agree that having a conversation window named by the active conversation is less than useful and I intend to fix how naming conversation windows works by placing the conversation placement strategy in charge of the naming, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Now with that said, a window manager is supposed to use the class/instance/role triplet to uniquely identify a given window, any window manager that doesn't support doing that should be updated to do so. (Using name on top of that or name optionally is fine.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Luke Schierer (lschiere) Date: 2005-11-21 17:16 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=28833 Really, according to both the ICCCM and the freedesktop.org specs, such window managers are buggy. I'm going to go ahead and close this and suggest you complain to them. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Date: 2003-05-05 17:34 Message: Logged In: NO I agree. I'd rather it just say "Gaim Messages" rather then displaying the Alias or name of the currently selected person. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: JF St-Amour (jfs862) Date: 2003-04-27 01:34 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=761989 Plus it seems broken to me that the IM windows is named Melissa just because her tab is active, when I have multiple conversations in that window. Any why the Away msg window has to bear the msg "name" is also beyond me. I liked the 0.5x behaviour a lot more. Of course at this point it's more a rant than a real bug report. ;) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: JF St-Amour (jfs862) Date: 2003-04-27 01:30 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=761989 That doesn't seem to be possible. When "remembering" properties, it does so by window title (more or less). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Luke Schierer (lschiere) Date: 2003-04-22 00:03 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=28833 it is however a feature request. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Ka-Hing Cheung (bsponline) Date: 2003-04-21 18:14 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=159910 You should use the window role to match the window. This is not a bug. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=350235&aid=725266&group_id=235 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by DB2 Express Download DB2 Express C - the FREE version of DB2 express and take control of your XML.
