It would be convenient to be able to alias people who 
aren't on your buddy list, but it's just a thought...

I'll second that. Maybe have an aquantance list? Sometimes I
want to associate a real name with a screen name, but I
don't want to know everytime that persons logs in or out, as
I do with my buddies.
