Please note that this message will contain a full copy of the comment thread, including the initial issue submission, for this request, not just the latest update. Category: oscar Group: None >Status: Closed Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Roger (qi3ert) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: See Invisible Users Initial Comment: Gaim 0.75 on Win2k/SP4 I could imagine this being best done as a plugin. For the newer releases of AIM, a person can set to be invisible, in which nobody can then see them listed in their buddy lists. That person however can still use their buddy list, send IMs and receive IMs. I've noticed that if you Get User Info for a screenname that is invisible, it is reported as being active. Could there be a feature that once sombody is detected as being invisible, they then show up on your buddy list with a special icon. Detection could be either manually, automatic for a specific screenname, or automatically tested for every offline user every x time period. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Luke Schierer (lschiere) Date: 2007-04-20 10:55 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=28833 Originator: NO As we are closing this tracker, please submit any feature request that is still valid to http://developer.pidgin.im. Thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Roger (qi3ert) Date: 2006-11-30 21:33 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=898053 Originator: YES sourceo, the plugin http://guifications.sourceforge.net/PluginPack/ appears to provide different functionality than this proposed feature request. I have not tried it, but after viewing the source at http://guifications.cvs.sourceforge.net/guifications/plugin_pack/showoffline/showoffline.c?revision=1.7&view=markup, it appears this plugin simply makes a specific user show up on a buddy list if they are offline. This feature request is about making a specific user show up on a buddy list if they are online but are set to be invisible, which would normally not show up as being online even though they are. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Ari Pollak (sourceo) Date: 2006-11-12 22:30 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=41611 this is implemented as the showoffline plugin here: http://guifications.sourceforge.net/PluginPack/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: hamstar (hamstar) Date: 2006-06-14 06:38 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1539701 Sorry but I think this is a crap idea. If I make myself invisible I want to BE invisible. Otherwise what is the point in being invisible!? The person who is invisible should choose who they want to speak to - not the other way round. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Eric (hiware) Date: 2004-05-20 03:27 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=954560 I think this is a powerful feature, and one that would be unique to Gaim for the time being if someone actually wrote a plugin (I wish I knew how). I'm not sure how AOL would really take to it, I mean Gaim does have the Idle Maker plugin that lets you incorrectly report your idle time; true though that on the basis of privacy it is at the other end of the spectrum. I'd like to see this as a useable plugin; perhaps under the label as a simple proof of concept piece. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Scott Sanders (giveuptheghost) Date: 2004-05-19 16:16 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=184281 I would suggest that this be done as a third-party plugin but not bundled with Gaim due to obvious privacy concerns and so that AOL doesn't have another reason (albeit minor) to sue Gaim. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Alex Rikaba (alxdotnet) Date: 2004-04-07 11:59 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=802657 I say go for it! I like the special invisible icon (or emblem) idea, and pinging offline users would work fine, if it's not done every 10s or so. I'd say 1 min between pings; of course, this should be configurable. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Eric (hiware) Date: 2004-03-31 11:57 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=954560 This is an excellent idea. Perhaps instead of an additional smaller icon on top of the AOL icon (like the smaller away/mobile/hiptop/etc. icons are placed), the icon and all smaller special status icons could simply become translucent (significantly enough so not to be easily mistaken with the desaturated idle icons), much like hidden files' icons are displayed in Windows/Mac. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: William (tacobill) Date: 2004-03-29 17:41 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=860603 That is a novel idea. After signoff event, wait 10-15 seconds and try to recieve their buddy info. Then mark that person as invisible. The only problem would be that gaim wouldn't know when they sign off so it would have to 'ping' every so often. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=350235&aid=925065&group_id=235 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by DB2 Express Download DB2 Express C - the FREE version of DB2 express and take control of your XML.
