Summary: Double-byte font display support on Win2k

Initial Comment:
Gaim 0.81 can support Chinese font(double-byte) display
on my WinXP, but I can't make it work on Win2k SP4. All
Chinese chararcters are displayed as black squares.

Gaim 1.02 is even worse. It does not support Chinese
font display on either WinXP or Win2k.

Update:

I found that actually if somebody send me a messege in
Chinese, it can be displayed properly.

UI characters, if in Chinese, are display as black blocks.
Moreover, if somebody's name in 'Buddy List' contains Chinese
Charaters, they are also displayed as black blocks.

The file 'pango.alias' is attached. I am not sure what exactly
they are looking for. I see no section named 'Chinese', but I
do see Chinese fonts like 'simhei', 'simsun' are listed.
BTW, I have no issue browsing Chinese web sites with IE.

somewhere in the gtk stuff is a file called pango.aliases
i'm not exactly sure where. look in that file on your win2k
box (use wordpad), and see if you have the fonts mentioned,
esp under Chinese, installed. the gtk guys are wondering if
you are by any chance missing "Chinese support for Internet
Explorer or
something like that"

we were informed by gtk that it is fixed, apparently the fix
doesn't work on win2k.

Is the pango fix in 1.0.3? I tried 1.0.3. It works on WinXP, but
still does not work on Win2K.

this was a bug in the win32 version of pango, not in gaim.
it has been reported and fixed for the next version of pango.
