Summary: windows position not remembered

Initial Comment:
when opening a new conversation window whether it be
from a new incoming im or from clicking on a buddy the
window opens at the top left of the screen. Move it to
the desired position on the screen and once it is closed
subsequent conversation windows will be opened on the
top left of the screen. Can we please have it so that
windows position is remembered on conversation
windows? I have 1.2.1 but this has happened on all
versions.

Just wanted to mention that it's still something that would
be appreciated by all the MS-Windows Gaim users (even though
it might go against your policy).

I'm using Gaim 2.0 and it doesn't store the window's
position nor size.

Recently there's been a plugin that saves the position but
not (yet?) the size of conversation windows (for gaim 2.0b2).
Here's the link:

Hope it helps people out!

This is mostly a GTK+ bug (that it always opens in the top
left instead of allowing Windows to place it).

Conversation windows' locations are not currently stored
because it has been decided that it is the job of the window
manager to decide window locations. That said, it is
possible that at some point in the future we will store
window locations and apply them to new windows being opened.

I totally agree with you slate104: keeping position is
important (but size keeping is also important in my eyes)!

By the way, slate104, can you give out your config (Windows
version, Gaim locale, GTK+ revision, etc.)? It might help
the devs in their bug-search...

Size is not even the important thing to me, it is how it
ALWAYS opens in the left corner.

I have also experimented this bug while using the french
localised version of Gaim (I used mostly pre-1.2.1 versions).

The only way to bypass this, for me, was to use the english
version (by setting the GAIMLANG variable to "en", as
explained in the windows port FAQ).

This solution allowed the window's position and size to be
correctly remembered (does not seem to work with 1.2.1, see
below).

Ok, I just tested this with GAIM 1.2.1 (still in English),
and it seems the size is remembered, relatively correctly
(given it's not under about 300px wide, or else it defaults
to a width of about 300px, which seems the smallest
"saveable" size of a window), but the position ALWAYS
defaults to the upper left corner of the screen.

My config:
Gaim 1.2.1 (windows port) (in english)
GTK+ 2.6.4 rev A
Windows XP Pro SP2 (french)
