Category: None Group: None Status: Open Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: clausomh (clausomh) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Autoreply plugin Initial Comment: Well, after just two years of being annoyed that I couldn't send an autoreply in msn, I wrote a small plugin to do just that. It should work in any protocol but I have only tested it with msn. When someone sends you a message this plugin will check if you are away (It doesn't check your setting about away or awayidle!). Then it will take whatever your awaymessage is and send that to your friend like this: "This is an automatic reply: <YOUR AWAY MESSAGE>" <YOUR AWAY MESSAGE> being whatever your away message is. Just put autoreply.so in your ~/.gaim/plugins directory ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Maik Wachsmuth (netswipe) Date: 2007-02-11 20:03 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1246567 Originator: NO same thing here... makes gaim-2.0.0beta6 crash when answering. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: x2017 (x2017) Date: 2006-11-10 22:11 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1642534 Gaim 2.0.0beta4 crashes when auto replying - the plugin is loadable without any problem but makes Gaim crash when it has to auto reply - but anyway, thank you for your work! :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: pichoscosama (pichoscosama) Date: 2006-09-26 19:11 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1391448 autoreply2 v2.06 for Windows is making crash gaim-2.0.0 beta 3.1 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: clausomh (clausomh) Date: 2006-08-04 15:54 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1346048 I don't think you can use Visual C++, but I could be wrong. To compile it you need to follow all the steps of build gaim for windows http://gaim.sourceforge.net/win32/build.php To compile the plugin to a dll you just put autoreply.c inside the gaim/plugins directory and use the command: make -f Makefile.mingw autoreply.dll ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: bravo (gopavy) Date: 2006-08-03 08:36 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1567641 Hello This is a cool plugin that you've coded. I'd like to modify it slightly to suit my purposes, however, could you tell me how I could compile it into a DLL file (as is required for it to work on gaim)? I currently have MS Visual C++, am I using the right program? And what libraries would I need to be able to make the C code compile? Thanks for the attention. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: pichoscosama (pichoscosama) Date: 2006-06-26 17:21 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1391448 Dear clausomh, I used to use trillian which has an autoreply option. I'm using Gaim 1.5 for Windows and autoreply v1.10. I found a bug. Everything seems fine except for the 'Only use Autoreply on these accounts: MSN:[EMAIL PROTECTED] MSN:[EMAIL PROTECTED]' feature. I tried turning my accounts off and had people talk to me, they still received the autoreply. I tried talking to my other account myself whilst the option being turned off, and I too got a reply. I checked the source of autoreply2 and can't seem to find any code that checks if autoreply is enabled for that account. Which is too bad because I was wondering how you would do so. So did I misread the source, am I unlucky or is the feature not yet implemented? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: clausomh (clausomh) Date: 2006-03-20 12:40 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1346048 The plugin you just put into your ~/.gaim/plugins directory, or in windows xp Documents and Setting\<YOUR USERNAME>\Application Data\.gaim\plugins\ If you mean the where to create the actual autoreply messages, it just uses your status message. Is it still set to away AND idle? If so both have to be true to actually get an autoreply. So gaim actually have to report that you are idle first as well as being away. You can use the "idle maker" plugin to test that. Maybe I should have those preferences on my preference page too. Easy to overlook them otherwise. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Ant (itchysoft_ant) Date: 2005-09-20 09:52 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1186610 > But I am curious to know why you want to talk to yourself? Simply because I usually test new plugins like this on my own account until I understand how they work. I sometimes use a second test msn account, but that was unavailable at the time. I've been testing with a second msn account (logged in from the official client) since then. > Here is version 1.05 Thanks again for such quick updates. > Added a few preferences. Ok, so I can't get it to send ANY autoreply now. I have all the settings in the preferences CHECKED, and I've set the time to 1minute. I'm using official msn client to start the conversation or to send to an existing one.... but no autoreplies. I can see things happening in debug, such as, autoreply: Retrieving /plugins/gtk/gtk-clausomh-autoreply/prpl- msn/[EMAIL PROTECTED] autoreply: Finding a conversation autoreply: setting active time autoreply: time set to 1127202127 But no actual response in the conversation. I can't see what I'm doing wrong. Is there anything I can try? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: L W (warp9pnt9) Date: 2005-09-20 03:15 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=706287 Cool plugin. Just an FYI, about queued messages. As far as I know, queued messages send out no signals at present. The receiving-im-msg and received-im-message signals are sent during the conversation (UI) creation. I've been stumped with the problem with my own unreleased plugin, and wondered if maybe I lacked understanding. In this case it's an instance of core and UI stuff not being properly separated which then causes queued messages to arrive and sit in Gaim memory without signalling anyone. :-\ I've posted on devel list and will have to wait and see. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: clausomh (clausomh) Date: 2005-09-20 00:51 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1346048 >The crash when clicking on my own account no longer >happens when using "Away AND Idle". Great! Can this be >applied to the "Away" setting too? Nah, that's a feature ;) But I am curious to know why you want to talk to yourself??? Here is version 1.05 Added a few preferences. "Do autoreply if new conversation starts" Checking of this will make it send of an autoreply on every new conversation Unfortunatly also the ones you create (Haven't found a way to know who starts the conversation) "Do autoreply if receive new messages" Checking that one will send an autoreply after each new message (that is from the second on in a new conversation) "Don't do autoreply in existing conversation until XX minutes after my last message" From 0 - 60 minutes can be given. That means it wont autoreply before XX minutes after your last message OR last autoresponse "Only use autoreply on these accounts" Here you can check of some accounts. Perhaps aol since it's supposed to support autoresponse queue still won't work ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Ant (itchysoft_ant) Date: 2005-09-19 15:24 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1186610 Quick update - thanks! After a quick test.... >> Away AND Idle - takes care of the 3 issues mentioned The away message is not sent automatically when I open a new IM window, cool. The crash when clicking on my own account no longer happens when using "Away AND Idle". Great! Can this be applied to the "Away" setting too? The away message now does not work at all on this setting. When I said, I would like to chat to buddies while being away without the autoreply interfering, I assumed the following rules: 1. If a buddy *initiates* a conversation while I am away, send autoreply. 2. If a buddy sends a message to an *existing* covnersation while I am away, do not send autoreply. (eg, I may have set status as Busy or Away to avoid other users, but still want to continue my chat with this particular buddy without spamming them with autoreplies.) 3. OPTIONAL: If a buddy sends a message to an *existing* conversation while I am away, and I have not responded to that conversation for X minutes, then send autoreply. Else do not send autoreply. Value of X can either be specified in plugin configuration UI or just taken from Preferences > Away / Idle > Auto-away > Minutes before setting away Ideally, I would love scenario 3 instead of 2, but I realise I am rapidly causing your plugin to grow far more complex that you originally intended, so feel free to ignore me :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: clausomh (clausomh) Date: 2005-09-19 14:46 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1346048 So here is v. 1.04 Now it does respect your atoreply setting: Never - will make it never autoreply Aways - it will behave as itchysoft_ant described, even causing gaim to crash if you talk to yourself Away AND Idle - takes care of the 3 issues mentioned below Alas, it still doesn't do anything if you queue your messages 8( ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Ant (itchysoft_ant) Date: 2005-09-19 12:27 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1186610 Have been using windows dll v. 1.03. Good stuff :) Seems to work well for several protocols, although I have come across a few issues that could be addressed: 1. If I open an IM window to a buddy while I am away, the plugin sends the away text straight away, without either me or my buddy typing anything. 2. I would like to be able to chat to some buddies while being marked as away, without the autoreply interfering. 3. If I am away on MSN and open an IM to myself (ie my account added to my own buddy list) gaim crashes. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: clausomh (clausomh) Date: 2005-09-18 15:54 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1346048 Ok, another small fix. And one unfixed bug. If you queue your messages when you'r away, you don't send autoreplys. Don't know how to resolve that one yet. So for now don't queue or don't use this. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: clausomh (clausomh) Date: 2005-09-17 23:59 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1346048 Recompiled the windows binary too ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: clausomh (clausomh) Date: 2005-09-17 23:57 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1346048 Just a tiny bugfix that suddenly made gaim crash ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: clausomh (clausomh) Date: 2005-09-17 17:48 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1346048 And now I've compiled a windows dll. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Ant (itchysoft_ant) Date: 2005-09-16 19:44 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1186610 Thanks.
