CALLING ON FILMS BY WOMEN FILMMAKERS ABOUT WOMEN TO BE SCREENED AT THE WORLD
SUMMIT IN JO'BURG (SOUTH AFRICA) 24th AUGUST - 2nd SEPTEMBER 2002 !!!

"WOMAN OF THE SUN" (WOS) SOUTH AFRICA - is a non profit organisation that
provides a supportive information network to women of colour who are working
in the film and television industry in South Africa in particular and the
Southern African region. WOS will be hosting the 'Gender Screen' at the
World Summit Film Festival to showcase films made by women about women in
relation to Sustainable Development.

WE ARE REQUESTING THE USE OF YOUR PRODUCT TO PROMOTE GENDER ISSUES AT THE
WSSD.  THIS IS NOT FOR COMMERCIAL USE, IT IS A PLATFORM WHERE WOMEN'S ROLE
IN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT CAN BE DISCUSSED. WE WILL BE HOSTING PANEL
DISCUSSIONS/FORUMS ETC. AND IF YOU HAVE ANY DELEGATES COMING TO THE WSSD, WE
WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK TO THEM AND POSSIBLY HAVE THEM ON OUR PANELS.
The deadline for product submissions is: Saturday 15 June 2002 (5pm). We
will be grateful if you expressed your interest by Thursday 6 June 2002.

We will be forwarding a flash document to you via e-mail by next week.
This document will have more information about the WSSD Film
Festival, an entry form, regulations and required materials.  In the
meantime, please contact us if you have any relevant product that you think
would be suitable for this festival.

In collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme UNDP and
various key stakeholders from government, corporate and civil society across
South Africa and internationally, the Film Resource Unit (FRU), will host
the World Summit Film Festival and Audio-visual Education Campaign for
sustainable development with the following main objectives:

FILM SELECTION CRITERIA:

THEMES
Showcase Africa and developing South in a positive light.
Women in the decision-making process on achieving sustainable development
The crucial role women play in the economic, social & political development
of their countries & communities
Women working towards Equality, Peace & Progress.
Impact of globalisation, women & technology.
Informing the Health Agenda - sexual & reproduction rights/abuse/HIV
Aids/primary health care/access to healthcare.
Human Rights.
Social Development - broadcasting for change/poverty reduction &
alleviation/education.
Social Justice - gender discrimination, stereotyping.
Women Gender and Sexualily - sex, gender sexual identity, sexuality in
cultural practices.
Women as bread winners
 Deal with issues that promote and reclaim collective identity.
Deal with issues that promotes Peace and Development.
Have a high entertainment value.
And other productions that deal with issues that has some bearing on issues
relating to
sustainable development.
