Strange. This is what I get: [...@hp_laptop ~]$ gcc --version gcc (GCC) 4.4.1 Copyright (C) 2009 Free Software Foundation, Inc. This is free software; see the source for copying conditions. There is NO warranty; not even for MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. As you see, my gcc comes from GNU but it's newer than the one on your system. This is the only difference that I see.
