Hey Steven, it does work in gnome.
Because the webbrowser control is based on a KDE library if you load the kbuildsycoca package (or the one that contains it) and re-run the webbrowser code it might work. I'm running it on a Debian Lenny and Gnome 2.22.3. And it works just fine.
