I use for do this no contol box. I got a form with a grid view with two columns (first length = 0) and I got a funtion that open the form fill the gridvied with available values (at fist row the key and at the second the visible value for the user) and send to the form the value you choice. In the form a put a textbox and a find button in order the user can find values at the list. The grid can be filled from a SQL or a coma-separated string.
I use this component in all my apps. If someone needs it I can put here .
