Any time. I'd hit up http://distrowatch.com/ to look at the top distributions, or perhaps do a search of Debian-based distros there (or whatever package management type you prefer). Also use a USB pen drive and the program unetbootin to make it bootable using a LiveCD ISO (or its integrated disto list!). unetbootin with a USB stick will save you burn and boot time and waste no CDs.
