It looks impossible, yes, but it's not quite impossible. The artilery fires you randomly as far as I can tell, and you'll probably be able to win using a simple system of constant game saving. When you load after getting blown up, the artilery usually doesn't fire at you. However, because of a bug in the save system, you're also risking putting yourself in an unwinnable situation.
