Hi, Nicol.
I do understand a bit of your situation without the details. However,
STFC does offer some work arounds such as an autopilot system. If you
use autopilot you don't need to fool with manual course corrections that
often.
Really, and I know this was explained in the manual, all you need to
know is 0 is north, 45 is north-east, 90 is east, 135 is south-east, 180
is ssouth, 225 is south-west, 270 is west, and 315 is north-west.
Actually, pretty simple once you remember what each number stands for.
I rrealise you have a bit of a learning curve, but if you can just think
of those numbers in standard north/south/east/west directions you will
be fine.
If you are doing a long range scan and you have an enemy warship at say
050 and since 045 is close to that if you enter 045, a north-east
direction, you will intercept that warship at some point.
Anyway, STFC is a somewhat complex game, and I know it certainly isn't
for everyone. It isn't a point and shoot game, but one where you have to
think about each move, plan your attacks, and hope for the best. You
have to make command decisions like do you throw all your remaining
power into the weapons in hopes of making a kill or do you tthrow it in
to the shields and hope to escape, and hope your shields hold out.
Another command ddecision might be do you play chicken and huddle around
your starbases and wait for the enemy to all show up, and pick them off,
or do you take the fight to the enemy and cut them down in their home space.
One reason I am personally successful at both Trek 2000 and STFC is I am
a very agressive gamer. I always leave my home space, and hunt the enemy
down, and whipe them out as much as I can and leave only a few to invade
while I am gone.
Sometimes on lower experience levels I do a job of whiping out enemy
bases, and cut off there supply lines leaving them defenceless when they
run low on ammo.
Another key to Trek 2000 and STFC as well is get rid of the Romulans and
in STFC the Klingons as they can cloak, become invisible, and they have
a habit of ambushing you. Bring them out in the open early on with a
good enough fleet you can quickly limit there roll in the invasion.
