Hi. One of the points about long range is that it is unspecific about ship names and allot of information. Did you ever see on Star Trek Commander Data might say to Picard I am picking up such and such type of vessel, but not until they take a closer look does the Enterprise get an ID on that vessel. That is kind of where STFC comes from with lr scans. You can ID class but not specifics.
