Given this talk of possibilities within the accessible game community, I
thought you all might like to take a look at a revolutionary game that is
about to turn the entire gaming world on its ear.
The game is called Spoare, and it is created by the genius that brought
the world SimCity so long ago.
The basic idea of Spore is you start of with a single cell organism and
you engineer it to adapt to it's environment. You can add eyes, arms, legs,
stripes, dots, whatever you like, and the game will intelligently have your
creature react and interact with its surroundings.
That would be cool enough, but as your creature thrives and multiplies,
the game takes on higher levels of complexity, where your creature populates
an entire city, then an entire glolbal civilization, and finally reaches the
point of being able to create spaceships that will allow it to reach other
planets, and here's the kicker:
When you reach these other planets, you will find them populated by other
player's creatures, all maintained on a central internet server.
You can go to war with the new beings you find, or you can join forces and
develop even higher levels of intelligent creatures.
This is just a basic overview of the game, this doesn't even get into the
incredible creation engine that allows you to build your own vehicles and
weapons and so forth.
Although this game will be wholly unaccessible, it gives a game developer
like me inspiration to pursue something similar for the blind community.
I have three games on the boards right now, but I think down the line
something similar to Spore can be done for us, and I think it would be
downright amazing to play.
Anyhow, keep your ears out for Spore, I promise you will be hearing lots
about it later this year, as it nears release, and if you want to know more,
do a search for "Spore Electronic Arts" on Google or go to www.spore.com
I say we should demand more from our games, eh?
