hi all, before anyone starts getting to in-depth about this topic, i'd just
like to point out that ivan is currently not a member of this list. after
much discussion between myself and tom and raul, he was temporarily removed
from the list a week or so ago. mainly due to his attitude to other members
and the misleading (some may even call it blatent lying) about the game he
was supposed to be working on. i am telling you all this as i do not want
the list cluttered up with useless messages aimed at ivan when he won't be
able to read them. by all means comment on what liam has posted, but please
remember the list guidelines! just because the member in question is not
here, doesn't mean it's ok to abuse him.

Subject: [Audyssey] blaytont Forgery regarding Ivan

> I was given permission by the mods to post this so that everyone knows
what's going on. I'm not hear to start a flame war.
>
> Let me first start by sayign that I have no ill will towards anyone
wanting to start developing games. In fact I've had the pleasure of
actually helping a few people get their feet wet when it comes to
programming. The issue I have is when things like the below happen.
>
> As you all know, Ivan was rather ambitious about his new project. You may
have seen Brandon's message to the list a few days ago. Ivan had sent him
source code which had no resemblance to only code that is writable by a
human. I'm not here to dog on Ivan for lying. Here's my problem.
>
> This morning, Brandon alerted me to a trailer Ivan had recorded. The file
was shifted down by 3 semi tones for some reason, and the file was of Ivan
explaining his new game and giving a demonstration of it. As I love to do,
I took the file in to sound forge and decided to play with it. I knew the
file wasn't naturally recorded the way it was, so I shifted it up. To my
amazement, the file sounded very much like Super Liam. I had originally
thought that maybe he had sampled the sounds. Upon closer listening and
some compression work, I found unmistakable proof that the game had actually
been recorded and the sounds shifted down. I was absolutely furious. What
Ivan was attempting to do was to play my own product, and then to say that
what he was playing was his own creation. It does not work like that. that
is balytonly against the law. I think Ivan may have some pathological lying
issues, but I am not here to judge. I just want to make this clear. If
anyone ever receives a trailer that sounds lik
> e it may be of another developers product, let them know. We spend long
hours working hard to bring games to the masses, and we don't respect when
children think that they can get away with changing a few sounds and calling
the game there own.
>
> I certainly don't want to discourage people from developing computer
games, but please be realistic and don't ly about what you have or haven't
done. It will only hurt you in the end. I'm afraid Ivan's reputation has
been fairly damaged due to this and other events.
