Hi, Aaron. The only case in point where this has been tried is Audio Quake by Agrip. What they did is get the open source copy of Quake, modified it to be pretty accessible, and then use it to update and modify the regular install of quake. In order to similarly make Quake II, Quake III, Doom, etc accessible one would need a copy of the source code to update them and make them accessible.
