Hi Richard,
That's really some good points. What I'd really like, is a clearer
definition of 'accessibility,' which I know is being done. I mean, must the
game then be accessible to other disabilities, like deaf players, or players
with other dissabilities? About games on TV etc, their are many games that
sighted people play using their TV's. It's interesting that a blind person
could actually sue if they can't play these games, but what I wonder is
whether their would actually be a blind person who'd actually sue just
because he/she can't play a game. It also brings up a very interesting
question about how sighted people would view that case! I know what I'm
going to say is controversial, but I think some sighted people might get the
feeling that, because a game has to be made accessible for the blind, they'd
somehow think that their standard of game play would be lowered, i.e, blind
people can't play difficult or challenging games, or that some of the
challenge of the game has been taken away because it had to be modified for
blind people. You guys might already be starting to virtually throw things
at me, but it's true, sighted people sometimes have strangest perceptions
and ideas about blind people, example, I am studying at a university. So
far, I've had this problem only twice, but some students, I don't know why
they do this, but they somehow think that, even though I got to Uni, and I'm
studying, I'm somehow incapable of even answering questions! Really! I'm
walking with a friend, and this student comes up and starts asking my
friend, 'What's he studying?' or even worse, 'How is he today?'The
enlightened sighted people laugh along with me, but this whole debate about
accessible gaming and accessible games might come right round again to the
question about how do sighted people view us?
Ari
