Hello to all. Here is what I recieved in this morning's mail from x-plane.
Hello, Ronald. Thanks for considering X-Plane and for taking the time to
write. To be honest, I have no idea if this will work. I hope it will but
I'm
struggling trying to imagine how you will interface with the computer to
learn to fly w/out being able to see your surroundings or the instrument
panel.
I hope that doesn't come off sounding to harsh, and I'm sure there's much
you could teach me. It's just that if you're coming in to land you need to
maintain an attitude that will bring you to the runway threshold at the
appropriate speed and it seems there are many variables that must be
monitored
simultaneously to allow this to happen. I very much encourage you to try it
out and let me know what you find. I have no idea if these 3rd party
programs
you reference will work or not but hopefully they will for you.

I do have some of the older 8.06 disks in stock and can sell these to you
for a discount. They do not contain the newer high resolution scenery files
but
the base program can be updated to the current version w/in the Version 8
run. Thus, the engineering and flight model can be made to be current. If
you'd
like, I can sell this to you for $45, a $24 savings off of the full package.
Advise if you'd like to try this and we can make it happen.

You also asked about peripheral controllers. Yes, the joysticks or yokes
and pedals and everything else just plug in via USB plugs into your
computer.

Good luck, Sir. I hope the best for you.

Need anything else? Please let me know and I'll be happy to try and help.

Thanks,

Randy Witt

Thought you might want to answer this. Maybe send to Austin. Will leave
that up to you.

to be?

Hello. My name Is Ron kolesar and I have several questions about your
x-plane program.
The way that most of we blind computer users use one of two popular screen
reader programs.
1. The majority of us use JAWS for Windows. Jaws stands for Job access with
speech.
2. The second is Window eyes.
In short thanks to the two above mentioned programs and Micro Soft Windows,
we access our computers via keyboard commands as well as audio feedback. The
Audio feedback is either wave files or any other audio file. About the only
place we can not access from the keyboard is usually safe mode and the bio's
sections of the computer. I would say that about 90 or 95 percent of the off
the shelf programs are blind friendly today thanks to Microsoft and the
screen readers that we depend upon.
I was a Sophomore in high school when the shuttle program started on April
the 12th, 1981. I played hooky when she was launched and when she came home.
I would love to learn to fly both airplanes both civilian and our military's
aircrafts. More importantly I would love to fly the shuttle.
We have three online games that are blind friendly that we can play against
other players around the globe. The other games that we have access to is
what is known as hand to ear coordination games. There are a handful of
companies that
are starting to grow that give us hand to ear coordination games. For these
games all you need is a head set and a keyboard. Some of the companies are
experimenting with physical force feed back joysticks. To bad there isn't a
physical force feedback keyboard.
Also to bad there isn't a bracelet or waistband that one could ware. You
then would plug yourself into your computer via a USB cable. You would have
a personal questionnaire that you need to fill out about yourself. Height,
weight, sex and so on. This way if the program gets to rough for the user?
The program would slow down or stop the program until the user's vitals
would come back to a normal rate.
I would love to be able to down load the x-plane program to test it out.
This
way I could give you a working opinion from a blind user.
I saw from the web page that there are several joystick foot petal combos
that one could order. Will these work with Win XP?
Are there any dictionaries or encyclopedias of terms that one could swallow?
Except from steering the plane, I think a blind person could learn to fly?
What are your opinions on this. For now, it looks like this sim will be the
next best thing to actually being physically in the cockpit with one's hands

on the controls since we cannot see.
If you would like further information about JAWS or window eyes? I can give
you the contact information for those companies. I could also give you
e-mail contact information for hand to ear companies to assist you in this
recommendation. As well, I can give you a e-mail to a blind gamers mailing
list for even further beta tester opinions from blind beta testers, as well
as a e-mail address to a quarterly blind gamers magazine. This just lists
what is new out there and so on.
I look forward to working with you to see if we can't get this program blind
friendly.
Very Thankfully Yours,
Ronald C. Kolesar who would love to learn how to fly and to be the first
blind astronaut on the shuttle and to serve one's tour of duty on ISS Alpha.
