You could actually get the Hale Blade now, it just might take some luck. You have to win the Thane's Tournament, then take the gold cup to Bryniver's in the north part of the city where the monastery is. Sell the cup to Bryniver (try to haggle with him until you get 2500 gold, so save your game before going to him), and then ask him if he has anything for sale. Hell show you the Hale Blade. If you don't have enough money right then, say no and leave. You can come back later and he'll still have it for you. It ain't pretty when the pretty leaves you with no place to go. J.D.
