It's meant to be that difficult. However, I can suggest that you use blessings of protection during the last two battles, as it will help you immensely. As for other adventures, Sleepless Night is a good one to try, as you'll get a ring that adds 3 more to your melee at the end. To answer your question about bashing, the weaponry subskills influence how well you use certain weapons. So if you wanted Bashing to raise your melee, you would have to be using a bashing weapon of equal or greater value than the slashing weapon you're using now. I am very tempted to ask, though, do you have the skill of weaponry slashing? If not, it would be a major help to you as your melee would increase for every ten levels of it you had while you were using a weapon such as the hail blade. I hope all this nonsense helps some.
