Hi Nicole, To play Alter Aeon, note the spelling, you need a special program called a mud client. There are two possibilities I know of that would be a good choice. One is the VIP Mud client by http://www.gmagames.com which is my personal favorite because of the built-in SAPI support etc. The other option is the MUSH client found at http://www.alteraeon.com/blind_support.html which has the mush-z client and scripts which works pretty well with screen readers.
As far as off topic verses on topic messages goes we try to keep everything on topic here as much as possible. Generally off topic posts are not allowed unless first approved by a list moderator before hand. For the list rules and guidelines you might want to review the message that was e-mailed to you upon signing up for the list which explains all this in more detail. However, as a rule of thumb if it is not game related in some way it is probably not on topic. Although, there are some topics such as programming that are a bit of a gray area, because it could go either way. Cheers!
