A MUD client is a terminal client. Meaning it connects to a different computer and is a extension of that remote computers screen. Difference between a MUD client and a teminal client like hyperterm or telnet is that it has functions to improve the gaming experience. Like support for triggers, scripts and aliases and a address book with a list of your favourite games. Triggers example: You get the message: "You are hungry" normally you would have to type "eat food" but your trigger intercepts the message and send "eat food" to the game. Alias example: You have ran out of food and need to buy some more so you issue the command "gobuyfood" but the alias sends "north, north, open door, west, buy food" to the game. Scripts are even more advanced and are often used with triggers to automate things. Installation is often pretty simple. And it does not get to complicated until you start using triggers and scripts, something that you normally don't need.
