I switched back to Ce, though my reasoning was slightly different. It is
true that in the game your main goal is doing missions for experience etc,
and that other than the alien attacks the missions are all pretty much the
same in terms of go and have a fight, for all the fights vary in nastiness.
However, the progression comes in research and building, and setting up
methods to produce better buildings and bases, that is the ultimate goal of
the game.
The thing however was that if I am going to do that, I'd rather do it in a
game with a bit more to offer in way of diversity while I wait for bases to
complete, hence what encouraged me to pick Ce back up again.
I also admit a major turn off for me in space oddysey was the numbers, since
there is a point with ship and fleet games where numbers just cease to
matter for atmosphere. I'd much rather command a fleet of 10 ships in
detail, than several hundred thousand faceless stat additions built at once!
This is also why I was very interested in Astro galaxy, since as well as the
realistic space system measured in Lagrange units, a u etc, it also had
realistically small spaceships, but ones you commanded in a fair amount of
detail.
Beware the Grue!
Dark.
