usually I'd agree with you on the unlockables, I just bought them to
support the developers.
The only thing I can think of is maybe the unlockables only unlock when you
restart a game, rather than in the same game you unlock them, though I'm not
certain and perhaps you would be better asking on the forums or contacting
the devs.
