The main thing for me is that in beta 18, when you jump, you can keep running without having to re-press the arrow keys. This means that you can run straight through the levels and its a lot more of a challenge on the reflexes than the later versions which require you to press the arrow to start moving again. I believe at the time you'd said this was because of switching from direct x, but I may be wrong.

I always considered it to be the most stable version of the game I
produced. Yeah, there were a couple of things that could be improved,
but beta 22 was the best version in my personal opinion. that is why
John threw me when asking specifically for beta 18 which I personally
didn't think was as good as beta 22. However, it has been so long
since I played beta 18 maybe there is something in it that wasn't in
beta 22?
