Agreed. Then there's Q9 and Super Liam, but while side scrollers they're entirely different in style.

Not sure what you mean by "there have been so many games of that
type." As far as I know there was Monte, which was abandoned, and
Mysteries of the Ancients which is ongoing and doesn't have a
registration system. I don't consider two different games being "so
many games of that type."
