Hi Charlse.
If I remember rightly, the third level is the one with the ships that move
side to side in zigzags.
What I usually do is sit in one place in the middle and pick them off as
they pass, sinse I know I am not fast enough to chase them down, and trying
to hit them while we're both moving in opposite directions, effectively
making them twice as fast is not going to happen.
The first time I played I couldn't hit them in the air at all, so I just
adopted the coward's stratogy of hanging out at the sides of the arena,
waiting for them to land and then blowing the heck out of the landers with
side lasers.
They are imho the second hardest ships in the game, the hardest being the
ones who move in a very similar way but spray bbullets at you. The bomber
ships I didn't find as bad sinse usually they were slow enough to kill
before they let the bombs out, but I was occasionally killed by the lander
ships.
The last Alien mothership boss funnily enough I've always found a complete
and total pushover, sinse all I needed to do was center the weak spot and
blaze away and the big mothership went down in seconds! it was quite
pathetic really, shame the game didn't have more of an ending, but then
again it was still fun, I really ought to play it again especially sinse I'm
probably rather rusty now, plus I still think that alien outback is one of
the better (if not the best), space invaders clone sinse the invader ships
actually attacked and damaged you not just hovering there to be picked off
like in most of this type.
Btw, amusingly enough with me being synaesthesic, while I have no problem
with ships being coloured, the colours I hear them as are totally different
to the colours that the manual says they are, for example those red ships on
level 2 that hover down a bit and deploy a shield sound pale blue to me,
certainly not red, and the moving ships on level 3 sound like a deep purply
blue, with a bit more of a tactile feeling of smoothness than the ones on
level 2.
Beware the Grue!
dark.
