A hearty "seconded!" from me. I hadn't read the initial post until now, but reformatting is not something that should be advocated unless there are absolutely no other options available, and IMO mentioning it in this circumstance does quite a bit more harm than good due to the loss of everything else on the machine. Please consider what it is you're actually recommending before you post something like that - the last thing somebody needs is to take your advice and lose all their valuable information.
