Oddly enough, for me it was the other way around with my phone.

In 2012, I had a none speaking but entirely usable nockier phone. I could pick it up and type numbers and answer it when people rang. I couldn't access the contacts list on the phone or anything like that, but I had a very handy parrot voicemate personal organizer that held all that info which I was entirely happy with.

Phone wise, I really didn't need! an Iphone at all, it was basically for all the games and programs and such, the phone bit was just a bonus, albeit I'm glad I bought the Iphone rather than the Ipad sinse things like reading text messages and taking voice memos do come in handy on occasion.
