This depends strongly on the game - if screen readers are supported at all,
there should be a setting somewhere.

Subject: [Audyssey] nvda not speaking in games

Hi,
I don't exactly know if this is an NVDA issue, but some here may be
able to help.
so, when playing games, instead of using NVDA to read output, it uses
Sapi. I have checked to make sure the nvda controller client.dll is in
the folder, and even reinstalling NVDA doesn't do anything. I know it
works because my other computer loads the game using nvda just fine,
so it has to be something with this machine. If it helps any, windows
7 pro.
thanks in advance
