Hi. While I was ideally thinking of the first style of game you mentioned, I certainly wouldn't dismiss a decently constructed text game with sound if it qualified as an Rpg.
Personally though, sinse they don't involve progressive plot, exploration or interactions with npcs beyond shop keepers, I'd say that Dragon warrior and elemental battle are a lot closer to turn based strategic batle games than they are to rpgs. Having beta tested the game though, I can certainly conferm that Dragonslayer's next title, Dangerous waters, though stil turn based, goes much further down the road towards being an Rpg in a James bond-esque setting, who said rpg's have to have a standard fantasy setting anyway!
