Hi Sarah, No, there are no spikes in that room. What I suspect is happening is you jump to soon, and end up jumping on top of the skull. If you jump directly on to a skull, spider, or snake you will die instantly. So one of the puzzles to this game is learning when to time your jumps so you don't get killed or injured in the process. (Smile)
