Hi Damien,
From what I have read from the Windows's Vista SDK .Net Framework 3.0
is suppose to have backwards compatibility with .Net 1.1 and 2.0. The
catch 22 is you have to be developing with VS 2005 or VS 2008 which is
in beta status. VS 2003 and earlier won't support .Net 3.0, and won't
run under Vista.
Anyway, though it looks as though Microsoft recognises the need to have
backwards compatibility with .Net 1.1 and above because it is now a core
part of Windows CE 6, Windows Vista, and Windows server 2008 beta. I've
also heard roomers that .Net will become a core component of Windows XP
SP3 if and when it comes out.
I wouldn't be surprised since Microsoft has publically stated to the
programming masses they intend .Net Framework to one day replace the
Win32 API as the programming standard for all Windows platforms. Hard
sell, but that is one of the reasons why old languages like VB 6 are no
longer being updated, supported, and are being scrapped.
