Will,

Dark's right.
The short answer solution for you is just wait for the ticking to end, then
press the Equals key.
Then wait for maybe a minute until the self-voicing tells you it is on.

The long answer follows:

The startup sequence the very first time you run the Game Book just after
you install it is:

1. A WAV file says "The 7-128 Software Game Book is now loading"

2. The audio progress bar sounds ticks that get higher in pitch until the
program is loaded.
It's important to wait for maybe a minute until the speech stuff loads.

3. Then the self-voicing says "When this Game Book first starts, the Game
Voice is OFF.
To turn the Game Voice on and off at any time, press the Equals key."

4. If you are not using JAWS, press the Equals key at this point.
Wait for the Game Voice to say "Game Voice is on"

When you exit the Game Book, it remembers that you had the Game Voice
turned on.

The next time, and subsequent times, you start the Game Book:

1. The WAV file says the same thing as before.

2. The audio progress bar ticks upwardly exactly as before.
Again, wait maybe a minute for the speech stuff to load.

3. Then the self-voicing says "Message Dialog. Game Voice is on. 7-128
Software Game Book 1.2 Home page. 7 Day Demo. 1 Home Page Button"

4. At this point, press the Enter key repeatedly, waiting for the program
to speak to you, until the first game starts.
Or, once you know the controls, you can just press the 2 key or 3 key etc.

I'm not thrilled with the time it takes for all the speech stuff to load.
But no one here has figured out to make it faster.

Do you think we should make the prompts (not the story text) into WAV files?
It would increase the size of the installation, but wouldn't leave people
wondering what was happening.
